Organic Tea Packaging Options: Bulk, Retail and Tea Bags

From 20 kg kraft bags for blenders to printed tins for retail shelves — what we can pack, what each format costs you in freight, and the minimums that apply.

Bulk formats

Bulk is how most first containers ship. The format matters more than buyers expect: a lined kraft bag protects aroma, an unlined carton does not.

  • 20 kg kraft bag with food-grade liner — the default for whole leaf and broken grades; stackable, 25 bags per pallet
  • 25 kg corrugated carton with inner liner — better for tea bags and powder, less compression on the leaf
  • 5 kg retail-ready bulk pack — for buyers who repack in-market and want less handling loss
  • Nitrogen-flushed liner — optional, adds shelf life for powder and for tropical destinations

Retail formats

Finished consumer units, labelled for your market. Print minimums are per design, not per order:

Tea bag formats

  • Pyramid — best leaf expansion and aroma; highest unit cost; the format most specialty brands choose
  • Flat / double chamber — the workhorse for foodservice and hotel programmes
  • Single chamber with tag and string — cheapest per unit, familiar to retail shoppers
  • Envelope-wrapped — individually sealed for hotel and airline use, with aroma barrier

Filter paper grade, thread length, tag size and whether the bag is glued or heat-sealed all change both cost and how the tea brews. We send physical samples of each format before you commit.

Materials and sustainability

Most buyers now ask about plastic. What we can offer today:

  • Mono-PE recyclable pouches — store drop-off recyclable in the EU and UK, at a small cost premium over laminated foil
  • Kraft with compostable liner — for dry leaf, with a shorter shelf-life window
  • Tinplate — effectively infinite recyclability, and the format that best survives e-commerce
  • Plastic-free tea bags — PLA or paper-based, compliant with the EU single-use plastics directive

Print, codes and compliance

Every retail unit needs more than a logo. Our prepress team checks the artwork against your market before plates are made:

  • Organic logo and certifier code (EU leaf, USDA seal, China Organic mark)
  • Lot code and best-before in the format your retailer expects
  • Net weight, ingredient and allergen statement, nutrition panel
  • Importer name and address, plus the market-specific recycling marks
  • Optional QR linking to the COA and organic certificate for that lot

Packaging questions

Can we mix formats in one order? Yes — bulk plus a retail run is common for a first container, as long as each format meets its own minimum.

How long does packaging take? Two to four weeks for printed materials, plus the production week; we hold standard kraft and tins in stock for repeat orders.

Do you provide artwork templates? Yes, dielines in AI and PDF for every format we run, with the safe area and barcode placement marked.
